The best game series I ever played was Roller Coaster Tycoon. As a theme park enthusiast (who wants to also build a theme park some day), I really got caught up in the ability to design my own theme park. Roller Coaster Tycoon, it’s sequel, and the RCT3 were all great games.
Several years ago I saw this video – Roller Coaster Tycoon in Real Life. It absolutely blew me away. It’s a guy that goes to this clear area and “magically” creates his Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 park. Today that video popped up in my recommended list and I watched it again, still amazed at how clever it is. For other Roller Coaster Tycoon fans, you’ll absolutely love it (especially with some of the inside jokes).
For those who have been having Roller Coaster Tycoon game withdrawals, there’s some good news… First, there’s a great roller coaster design game called No Limits 2 that is absolutely incredible with its realism. Also, Steam has an Alpha release (not yet complete) of Theme Park Studio that you can buy. Theme Park Studio is still in its fairly early stages, but the design elements are already stunning. It’s more of a “design your ultimate theme park” mechanism than it is a game. There is no goal – it’s a giant realistic sandbox. But it looks like it still has at least six more months or so until it is ready.
And finally, for those who haven’t heard… Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 on the PC is coming out! It is expected in late 2014 or first quarter 2015. This is unrelated to the version they put out on mobile that most fans of the series have disowned and disavowed.
Alright – enough theme park talk (I could go on forever). Here is the video…
